Just a brief thought on the supposed stumble regarding the "Bush Doctrine" by Palin last week: it makes no sense to commit to an as-of-yet undefined term.
Gibson hadn't defined what the ambiguous doctrine is (in fact). No politican worth their salt would commit to supporting such a nebulous thought, without further follow-up from the questioner. She affirmed the essentials of the Bush position, without tying herself irreversably to a term that carries enormous baggage. She stepped lightly.
I'll be honest and say that I wish she could have answered more directly some of his loaded questions. In reality though, its probably better that she didn't.

Duuuuuuude. I get that Sarah Palin has got star power and lots of agreeably conservative social positions, but seriously? Three months ago she a) didn't even have an opinion on the Iraq war b) didn't even know what the vice president "did". She's never even been out of the country before last year, and in her two years as governor of Alaska, most of it was spent on maternity leave, not to mention her totally questionable public voting and spending record. My personal opinion on Palin is that for all her desirable positions on social issues, she's a terrible candidate for VP, particularly considering John McCain's advanced age, and the real possibility that she may become president.
Does Sarah Palin have the chops to solve the economic crisis, lead and conclude the war in Iraq, put an end to state sanctioned torture and domestic spy programs, mediate with the increasingly hostile Russia, North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, and China, improve the deplorable state of education in America, combat global warming and pollution, and fix the broken health care system? All while nursing a disabled newborn?
So I think if you are going to whole-heartedly throw your public support in for Palin, you at least owe us some apologetics justifying the election of an unqualified candidate because and only because they share your values. I don't exactly want a blow by blow reply, I am just wondering why these things are not exactly like, a problem, you know?
First off...welcome back to the blogosphere! It looks like your food blog might have been getting more activity...you should blog more.
Secondly, your "a" and "b" objections are little more than propaganda...so lets deal with some of the real issues that Palin brings to the table.
Thirdly...you're right. Some real reasons for supporting Palin wouldn't be out of line. Just remember...you asked for it. :)
Fourthly...its been said often enough, but since you mention the total lack of experience you believe Palin has (I don't accept this portrayal, but putting that aside for a moment...) I would like to point out that Palin is on the bottom of the ticket. While McCain MIGHT die and make Palin president, if Obama wins he WILL be president...and his experience as a perpetual candidate, community organizer hardly stands as a resounding endorsement of his comparable qualifications.
Just sayin... :)
